Today, with so much business being done on-line there is quite a risk of fraud. I'd like to introduce myself and tell a little about my past decades "in dogs". I'd also like to introduce you to the two most important people in my life, my late parents, for which "DanBar" is dedicated - Daniel and Barabara Jessup. I've been very active in dogs since 1976. As an author, trainer, breeder, educator, expert witness, international lecturer on dog behavior and "crazy old dog lady" I am absolutely "real" and not an internet scam. And I love to talk about dogs; your dogs, my dogs, any dogs!

DanBar Ranch is a tribute to my beloved parents, Daniel and Barbara Jessup, long-time residents of West Seattle, WA. Dad was a captain for United Air Lines and mom worked tirelessly to give us kids a clean, safe, intelligent and loving home. Because of them, I was able to retire to the country and "live the dream" which is DanBar Ranch. Thanks, mom and dad, for instilling in me your love and respect for all animals, your ethics and your common sense - the best gifts parents can give their kids. They taught me that if a store clerk accidently gave you too much change back - you walk back in and return it. They were pure class. I hope wherever they are they can see into my heart and know how much I love them still. The picture above shows them before they were married. After my mother passed, my father wrote the small note seen on the right bottom. "Oct 1948 we met. Oct 2013 Barbara went on ahead." A real, old fashioned life long love story.I recently had the wonderful experience of releasing mom, dad and my older brother Daniel's ashes into the beautiful little Fauntleroy Cove in Seattle, WA. We all grew up playing in that cove over many decades; it was truly a part of all our lives.

Over the 50 years I have put over 70 "old school" training titles on my dogs. I use positive "marker training" methods.Multiple High In Trials in AKC/UKC obedience Multiple High In Trials in Schutzhund/IPO Man-Tracking Titles (AKC TD, TDX, SchH Tracking I, II, III, FH Weight Pull: IWPA WDS Gold/Silver Medals Herding ASCA (Started Trial Dog ducks/sheep) (pit bulls) Barn Hunt: RATN (finding rats) Movie Work: I've trained and handled pit bulls, Dobermans and a Rottweiler in major motion pictures (showing who we worked with) including: Green Room with Patrick Stewart (pit bull), The Good Son with Macaulay Culkin (pit bull), Lawn Dogs with Sam Rockwell (Doberman), Plain Clothes with Arliss Howard, George Wendt (pit bull), Assassins with Sylvester Stallone (Rottweiler), Hear No Evil with Marlee Matlin (pit bull) (great scene but got cut!) Getting Even With Dad with Maccaulay Culkin/Ted Danson) (pit bull) Simon and Simon Movie: In Trouble Again (Gerald McRaney/Jameson) (pit bull) I have donated several American pit bulls to Law Enforcement for explosives and narcotics detection work.

(Below: My beloved "Dirk", SchH 3, IPO 3, French Ring Brevet.Dirk was a gamebred pit bull purchased from a dog fighter and trained to his complex titles with "pure positive" training (no corrections). Here he is earning his Schutzhund 3 title. Gawd, I miss that dog.

The one and only thing a person takes with them into death is their personal honor. I despise those who think "getting away with something" is a virtue. I have dedicated my life to the stewardship of a few different breeds, and have focused for the past decade on the Cairn terrier. Stewardship means putting the welfare of the breed ahead of personal gain and producing dogs that will be handed on to the next generation healthier - and unchanged by current fads. I have a life-long commitment to EVERY pup I produce, and they are all microchipped and I remain as a contact for them their entire lives. ANY pup found in a shelter or if an owner can no longer keep it - it comes back to me.I am retired from 20 years as an animal control officer, have written three well received books on dogs (working on a 4th!) hundreds of magazine articles, have traveled to five countries giving dog behavior workshops to animal control and law enforcement workers. I have been featured on TV shows such as Oprah, 48 Hours, McNeil/Lehrer News Hour, Bryant Gumble Eye on America, CNN and many local stations concerning dog behavior. I have also been an expert witness for law enforcement agencies concerning the use of Police K9 dogs.More about my life and work HERE (working on this).

I am critical of many things I find odious; those who warehouse animals in "no kill" facilities, those who keep rescue animals with no quality of life alive for their own gain, those who abuse children - its a long list. And no one hollers louder than the guilty when I call them out. I'm downright PROUD of the people who dislike me LOL!
