The Process: I have very limited litters so to avoid disappointment it is best to contact me for an application as soon as you decide to move forward. Applications will be reviewed and we will talk on the phone about your expectations for your cairn puppy. EMAIL me for an application and additional information.
Once your application is approved and we have spoken you will be kept updated on how breedings and litters are coming along.
Once a litter is born and has reached the age of 10 days I will notify all applicants that I am opening deposits to hold a pup for you. Pick position (who gets first pick at the puppies) is determined by the order of deposit arrival. Folks are allowed to pick their own puppies - I think pups and people should have an equal say in the process.
Pups will be weaned, microchipped, wormed, given a coccidia and giardia preventative and given their first vaccinations and are ready to leave between 7 and 8 weeks of age. In my experience holding puppies longer than this retards housetraining and bonding with new owners. Pups which are shipped by air cargo must be 8 weeks of age.

Ways To Pick Up Your Puppy
Pick Up At Ranch
You are more than welcome to come here to DanBar Ranch to pick up your puppy. I do live somewhat remote, and the road is a bit rough (no low riders!). I am located in Goldendale, WA, two hours from Portland, Oregon, one and half hours from Yakima, WA and two hours from Kennewick (The Tri Cities area).
Additional information on visiting DanBar can be seen HERE.

Fly In - Fly Out
Shipped By Cargo
For those who live at a distance, you are welcome to fly into PDX (Portland, Oregon airport). I will meet you at the airport and you can fly out the same day, so that you don't need to rent a car or get a motel room.
Airlines charge a small fee for this service and the pup must be in an airline approved soft crate that can fit under the seat. Puppy can come out and sit on your lap after takeoff on most flights. I do charge $100 for driving into PDX (4 hour round trip).

I have shipped dogs by air cargo since the late 1980's and have never had a negative experience. I use Alaska Airlines which have wonderful staff who always treat the pets with consideration. My puppies have robust, sound temperaments and a flight doesn't phase them - they come out of the crate with tails wagging and happy to meet their new moms and dads!
I do ship ONLY on non-stop flights, which may mean a bit of travel if you don't live near a major airport. Be aware that some areas do have heat/cold embargos in place at certain times of the year. In those cases I suggest the Fly In - Fly Out option.
The cost of shipping crate and veterinarian health certificate will be added to total cost of puppy. Crates run *about* $45 and health certificates $75. I do charge $100 for driving into PDX (4 hour round trip).

My Guarantee
My goal is to produce the best, soundest and healthiest cairn terriers possible. For myself - and for you. I do not sell defective puppies. I back this up with one of the best guarantees out there. I can do this because I have been breeding long enough and have a stong enough knowledge of breeding principles to know that my chances of producing a dog with serious issues is as small as possible.
Of course life is life - people and pets alike are stricken with things like cancer and no one can protect against that. But for the issues which I do have some control over (those listed below) I offer a very generous guarantee.

Pricing
What makes a dog valuable? To me, its the value of their humor and companionship. And you can't put a price on that. A dog found on the side of the road can become priceless. An expensive champion dog can be a neurotic, horrible mess. But a breeder must put a price on the puppies they cannot keep. For me I want that price to be as low as possible so that health tested, well-bred dogs are available to anyone who wishes to support ethical breeders. My desire to produce fine dogs is an expensive hobby that does not pay for itself. Which brings me to why I have two prices for my puppies.
My base price for pups is $1800. This price reflects limited AKC registration, microchip (registered for life) age appropriate vaccines, worming, coccidia and giardia preventative and my health guarantee.
For those who wish full AKC registration I charge $2500. Any pup leaving DanBar for breeding purposes must meet strict health and conformation requirements - but primarily I want to discourage so called "backyard breeders" who think they can pick up a cairn, breed it and "make money". Unlike some breeders who refuse to help anyone interested in breeding, I am proud of my dogs and their health and attributes, and if someone is SERIOUS about breeding I would just as soon they use my dogs than some poorly bred dog. If you are interested in breeding let's talk.
