I have been a serious student of successful breeding practices for half a century. Merida is an example of putting my knowledge to the test - and I am loving the results! A breeder can't really begin to take credit for the "type" of their dogs for at least several generations; I feel Merida is a nice example of the type I am striving for. She is a pleasant, confident girl, tough as nails and with one of the best true hard coats I've produced. What you see is what you get - she has never been "stripped" or "plucked" or trimmed in any way.

The Wee Hyena got her name when she was a puppy. She was "a lot". As she matured she became the sweetest girl, and left her wild ways behind. She is extremely affectionate and loves to snuggle. Another perfect coat thanks to her wonderful mother, my beloved Wee Mary Quite Contrary.

As sweet a dog as you will find. Carefully bred to produce himself, he is the product of the science of breeding as practiced by the most successful breeders of domestic animals - family breeding. I'm very proud of him. I am almost tempted to show him, but instead I will let him have fun at AKC earth dog trials and barn hunt trials. This dog's puppies will be particularily of interest to those who wish to have fun in dog sports! Healthy, happy, handsome; you can't get better than that.

Heckle is one of smartest girls. But unlike many cairns, she does not use her intelligence for evil purposes! She is never a trouble maker. But she can communicate her needs clearer than any dog I've seen. If there is an issue with her puppies she will come and "get me" with very clear communication, persistant but gentle. She is a real love. She has so many good qualities of her wonderful mother, Wee Mary.

"Twizzle" came to me as an adult. I named "Twizzle" that because she had a behavior of twirling in a circle when excited. She is a nut - and one of my favorite dogs! Twizzle spends her days now lying next to me when I work on the computer, and wandering around with a toy in her mouth when I'm outside. I am so grateful to Twiz for being such an important part of my breeding program. She and Bonnie were fantastic foundations.

Pagan is a beautiful cairn with fantastic health and soundness. Both her parents had the AKC "CHIC" designation meaning they had all suggested health testing required for the breed. However, I do much more testing than the AKC breed club requires. She has a funny personality - sweet and yet with a sober expression that earned her the nickname "Grumpy Cat". A wonderful mother and a dog who fits in well with all the other dogs here. Pagan has been spayed and is enjoying the rest of her life here at DanBar ranch, chasing ground squirrels and chasing the Dobermans. I hope to get her entered in some barn hunt or earth dog trials.

My Mary was such a special girl. She was that perfect dog in all respects. Beautiful in body and spirit, she was the first dog I produced that I felt was going to be the real foundation of my line of cairns. Perfect coat, wonderful and sound structure, perfect cairn character. I am blessed to have had an amazing litter from her shortly before her accidental death. She will live on forever in my dogs, and I will remain forever grateful for her contribution to my dream of producing rustic, robust, original type cairn terriers.

Annie represents my "first generation" of pups. She is a lovely girl that gave me some truly wonderful pups. When she retired she had the opportunity to go be the "Queen" in a fantastic home with the most wonderful people. She has been living the best life and now has a little buddy from DanBar that has come along to keep her young at heart. Annie is always in my heart as a foundation upon which my line was built as well as being just a wonderful doggy friend.

What can I say about Bon Bon? My first female cairn and one of the absolutely outstanding characters of our time. Nothing life her. An absolute angel who has spread joy and happiness to every person she ever meets. Bonnie was retired from my breeding program when I found out she was a CMO carrier, but I was able to breed to clear dogs and remove the genes from my line. Bonnie did not care for puppies (other than her own) so despite how much it hurt my heart, I let her go to live with Sylvia, in Idaho, an older English widow who has become one of my dearest friends. Bonnie has completely taken Sylvia under control and runs the household much to both their delight. Live long and prosper Bonnie and Sylvia!

Thank you to Norma Rice of Marma's Cairn Terriers for being nice enough to give a cairn "novice" a chance to fulfill her dream of breeding healthy, great cairns. Cairn terrier show folks tend to be very cliquish and try to keep out anyone who even mentions "breeding". After being rebuffed by dozens of breeders Norma was kind enough to not only sell me Mikey and Bonnie, but to also mentor me in the ways of cairns to this day. Thank you, Norma.Wee Mikey was my best buddy; an outstanding personality that changed the minds of many men who visited here thinking small dogs were "for women"! Mikey was a "man's man". And yet the gentlest dog I ever owned, who loved other animals and was always a gentleman. Sadly, Wee Mikey met his fate when love caused him to dig under a fence and take on a 110 pound male Doberman stud over the love of a lady. His neck was snapped and he died quickly in my arms, knowing he was loved beyond measure.
